New Promotion and Tenure Guidelines for the College of Medicine

The College of Medicine Executive Committee approved the proposed Promotion and Tenure Guidelines for the College of Medicine today, June 21, 2012.  These Guidelines may be used by faculty candidates for promotion and/or tenure beginning immediately.  For the next 24 months faculty candidates may select either the previous COM guidelines or the newly approved guidelines, after which only the new guidelines will be applicable.  The mechanism to indicate by which guidelines an individual faculty member has decided to be evaluated is to paste the appropriate sections of the selected guidelines directly into his/her promotion/tenure packet (in section 8).  Both guidelines are posted on the faculty affairs website http://facultyaffairs.med.ufl.edu.

The new guidelines are posted here .

The “old” guidelines are posted here.

Please be aware that candidates using the “new” guidelines are required to submit clinical or educational portfolios as appropriate for the faculty member’s assignments.  However, all faculty candidates with a substantial clinical or educational mission assignment are encouraged to submit the respective portfolio(s), even if using the “old” guidelines for evaluation.  The formats for the educational and clinical portfolios are provided in the Tenure and Promotion Handbook.  We will post versions in Word format shortly.

Other important information and packet instructions are included in the Tenure and Promotion Handbook.  All faculty members planning to apply for promotion and/or tenure are strongly encouraged to review the information in the handbook.
