Need Directions? A Roadmap to Engage Faculty in Milestones/Competency-based Medical Education Assessments

10-22-iconIn this session, Drs. Lo, Meyer and Stalvey will increase faculty’s awareness and ability to utilize the milestones for competency-based medical education assessment. Participants will discuss the implementation and assessment of milestones in their own residency and/or fellowship training.

In small group group break-out sessions, attendees will prioritize their own specialty’s set of reporting milestones for a given entrustable professional activity (EPA) using a Q-sort priority matrix tool. The results of this small group exercise will help to develop a customized global end-of-rotation evaluation form to bring back to the attendees’ own training program. Participants will then watch a patient-resident encounter video and practice using the new milestones evaluation form. We hope this session will engage faculty in assessing learners in competency-based medical education, using milestone-based evaluation tools that can be easily created by a q-sort matrix tool.
