Teaching at the Bedside
Date: January 25th
Time: 12PM
Presenter: Dr. Elisa Sottile
Recording link: Brown Bag Lunch lead by Elisa Sottile on Teaching at the Bedside
Description:
For the last few decades, medical educators have increasingly felt the pressure of time as they are called upon to add to their list of duties as well as increase the number of patients they see in any variety of clinical setting. The very reason so many of us choose employ in an academic center was for the joy and stimulation of teaching. Now, factors have compelled many to place a lower priority on their teaching, instead needing to focus on those other factors that are directly tied to promotion or salary.
While many institutions recognize the need to reprioritize their expectations of their faculty, much work is still needed. Physician burnout remains high, especially among clinical educators. However, faculty can utilize their time more effectively, diagnose their learners while diagnosing their patients and increase their own satisfaction. Bedside teaching allows just that.
This session will provide planning and preparation tips for bedside teaching, and review efficient teaching tools that are especially useful for clinician educators to utilize at the bedside.

Join the Micro-Resistance against Microaggressions
Date: February 22nd
Time: 9AM
Presenter: Dr. Zareen Zaidi
Zoom link: https://ufl.zoom.us/j/96327157272
Description:
Academies have openly acknowledged the importance of role models, but very little effort has been directed to address the negative psychological sequelae underrepresented individuals report and the effect that ongoing microaggressions have on their careers. Microaggressions are subtle (often implicit), patterned exchanges, looks, or gestures that devalue race or gender. Because microaggressions can pass as acceptable questions and lines of inquiry between individuals, it is often difficult to identify them. The purpose of this session is to provide you with hands-on micro-resistance training that can empower bystanders to address microaggressions in the workplace.
